Purim Recipes
Nothing unites us more than food; add these Purim-approved recipes to your holiday repertoire!
Making the perfect hamantashen is always a victory, not unlike the victory detailed in the Book of Esther. You might have a classic family recipe, or you might be looking for new inspiration for some mishloach manot.
Of course, Purim isn't just an opportunity to eat hamantshen with a multitude of fillings. Families and friends gather to share meals and enjoy each other's company — we hope you can find a favorite recipe to gather around from the TI member-approved list below!
Chag Purim Sameach!
INGREDIENTS:
¾ cup sugar
2 cups flour
¼ tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking powder
½ cup shortening
1 egg, beaten
2 tbsp. orange juice
Fruit or chocolate filling of choice
(note: this recipe originally calls for prune filling; any fruit or chocolate filling of choice can be used.)
DIRECTIONS:
Sift dry ingredients together. With a pastry blender, cut shortening into the dry ingredients. Add egg and orange juice and mix until a dough forms. Cover bowl tightly and chill overnight, or for at least 3 hours. Put chilled dough onto floured surface and roll out until 1/8” thick. Cut out 3” circles, and place ½ tsp. of desired filling in the center of each circle. Fold dough over to form a triangle, and pinch sides together to keep filling inside. Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375 for 15-20 mins. Makes about 2-3 dozen. Enjoy!
