A Message from the Rabbis

To our Temple Israel family,
Just yesterday, the remains of three hostages who were tragically murdered in Hamas captivity on or since October 7, 2023, have returned to Israel as part of the current ceasefire deal. These captives, who have become symbols of hope over the past 503 days, are confirmed to be an elderly man, Oded Lifschitz, and two children, Ariel Bibas and Kfir Bibas. The body of Ariel and Kfir's mother, Shiri Bibas, was not returned with them as promised and her whereabouts are still unknown. This is a moment that carries profound emotional weight for all of us, and hits much too close to home as a community with a full and vibrant Education Center, as well as hundreds of intergenerational families with young children.
As we attempt with all our might to deal with the immense loss of Oded, Ariel, and Kfir, and grapple with the possibilities of Shiri's fate and what may come next as Phase 1 of the ceasefire soon ends, it’s crucial to remember that TI is built on the values of community and connection, especially in times of uncertainty and sorrow. Perhaps now more than ever, we need each other’s presence to navigate many feelings. We invite you to join us at Shabbat services this Friday night where we can come together, pray in solidarity, and share perspective during the sermon. Simply RSVP here; everyone is welcome.
If you're looking for resources to stay informed, access emotional support, or guidance on how to talk to your children about these tough topics, we continue to update our Israel Hub with helpful information for families and individuals of every age and stage of processing the news.
Please remember, we're here to ensure that no one feels alone in this grief.
