A new year, a new ritual

Years ago, David & Martha Aronson were on a trip in Venice when they saw the work of artist Michal Meron and her Illustrated Torah. This scroll contains unique pictorial interpretations of the 54 weekly portions of the Torah presented on a single canvas scroll with rollers. It is an incredible educational tool, giving children and adults alike the opportunity to interact with the text of the Torah.
David & Martha, along with Martha’s mom Evelyn Goldberg (z”l) and their children Rob and Ted Aronson, donated the Torah to Temple Israel where it hangs outside of the May Chapel, and each week it is rolled to the new portion. This week, however, in honor of this most special Simchat Torah, when we were so in need of a new ritual to put the last year behind us and begin again, we decided to take the Illustrated Torah out of its case. Our youngest Religious School students had the opportunity to unroll the Torah and see the beautiful pictures of each Torah portion.
What a special experience!
