It’s about the journey, not the destination

In 2013, I received a phonecall from Rabbi Amy inviting me to start a Women’s Group at TI. It turned out to be a lifechanging call followed by an unexpected journey, as just a little over a decade later, I'd never have imagined myself writing my first column as Executive Director of Temple Israel.

I didn’t anticipate this past 10 years to become the incredibly rewarding experience it has been for me. Not only have I grown as an individual, I’ve met some of the most amazing human beings, and I am so grateful for being a puzzle piece in the impact we’ve made as a community. I've also realized that my own path here at TI aligns perfectly with our mission statement: TI is an inclusive community that supports your unique Jewish journey. And mine has been just that – inclusive and unique!

For over 138 years, our members have dedicated their time, talent, and literal sweat to build TI into what it is today: a welcoming, warm, diverse, and thriving Congregation - united by Judaism. Our institution’s existence has always depended on those who are willing to contribute in ways beyond synagogue dues: Lending expertise in all aspects of business, sharing guidance and feedback, caring for our gardens, setting up for High Holy Days, building our sukkah, writing birthday messages to our community, assisting with events… What a beautiful legacy that past generations have left us! And it’s our duty to pitch in and build upon that legacy for the generations that follow.

So today, I invite you to get involved in a way that is meaningful to you. Complete a short online form at www.ti-stl.org/GetInvolved and start your own unique Jewish journey at Temple Israel! Based on my own experience, I can promise you it will be well worth it.

I cannot adequately express how privileged I feel to now serve as TI’s Executive Director – I am incredibly grateful for all your support, well wishes, and trust in me. My favorite part of my job has always been welcoming congregants and guests to services and every personal interaction. My goal is to meet and welcome all of you. If we haven’t met, please say hello the next time you come to services (I am always at the Sanctuary door!). Or give me a call or reach out via email. I would love to hear from you. There is no other community like our Temple Israel community and it’s because of you –  the people who choose to belong here –  that I am so proud to be a member of this community, too.

PS: The next time Rabbi Amy pops up on your caller ID, I encourage you to pick up! You never know, it could be the most life-changing call you ever answer. Trust me!
