“My grandparents and parents belonged to B’nai Amoona. I grew up conservative, became a Bar Mitzvah there, served on their Board, and was a full-time member until just a few years ago. Out of a respect for tradition, we are still auxiliary members. While we weren’t super religious, we grew up with strong Jewish values and a close connection to Israel, and my brothers and I retain that connection. My three daughters attended Solomon Schechter Day School (now known as Saul Mirowitz Jewish Community School) for an aggregate of 18 years. Being Jewish is the fundamental part of who I am.
“I’m proud that my wife, Susan, and I had the good sense to join the Temple Israel community a few years ago. My lifelong – but much younger – friend, Rob Litz, asked me to serve on the Board here at TI not long after, and I can’t say no to Rob. I just hope to be a positive contributor to Board discussions.
“One of our core beliefs at TI is Repair of the World, and it says that it is our responsibility to live Jewishly in ways that change the world for the better. Many of our core beliefs resonate with me, but ‘living Jewishly’ (which, among many other things, to me means living honorably, striving to be just, listening, being charitable, and valuing everyone) is all about trying to make the world a slightly better place. These are the values my parents mirrored for me and values I hope I mirror for my kids.”
Favorite quote? “My favorite quote is from the famous philosopher (aka, formal STL Cardinals player) Joaquín Andújar, who said, ‘You-never-know.’ And he was right!”
Hobbies outside of TI? “Working on my fastball.”
Have any pets? “Libbie (z”l), who recently passed away at 16 years old, and was the best golden retriever puppy there ever was.”
