It’s almost here… Yom Kippur, the Jewish Day of Atonement. Yom Kippur falls each year on the 10th day of the Jewish month of Tishrei, which is 9 days after the first day of Rosh Hashanah. It’s an annual day of fasting and prayer among the Israelites, still observed by their Jewish descendants. Starting at sundown Tuesday, September 18, we won’t eat for 25 straight hours (24 + 1 for good measure). Fortunately, there’s a light at the end of the tunnel… Wednesday, September 19 at sundown. Sunset starts at 6:32 pm (if you’re counting) and can take anywhere from 70 to 100 minutes. Then, it’s time to break the fast!

Whether you like to schmooze with friends or spend quiet time with your family, here are a few favorite places to indulge on this day:

Traditional
A bagel and lox might be just the thing… After spending years in NYC, the best bagels in St. Louis come from The Bagel Factory.

Pizza
If you haven’t tried it yet, be sure to check out Peel Pizza which now has a Clayton location.

Potluck Party
My go-to dish is bruschetta chicken. I think I’ve made it one two many times, but it always turns out perfectly (and I don’t cook!). https://www.delish.com/cooking/recipe-ideas/recipes/a51771/bruschetta-chicken-recipe/

Steak
A St. Louis favorite, Kreis' is just around the corner on Lindbergh.

Seafood
Delicious seafood awaits your break fast at Bristol Seafood Grill in Creve Coeur off Olive Blvd.

Italian
Paul Manno’s is consistently delish. Be sure to try their lamb chops.

Chinese Food
Be sure to make reservations ahead of time for St. Louis’ hidden gem.

Multi-Course
Since you have been atoning all day and may be “hangry,” consider the tasting menu at The Crossing. You can mix and match for your perfect meal.

Casual
Whether grabbing a quick bite or catering an event, Garbanzo Mediterranean Fresh is sure to please.

BBQ
The smoked wings and cracker mac are a crowd pleaser!
