For the past year or so, the presidents and presidents-elect of the reform temples in St. Louis have been meeting regularly to discuss issues of mutual interest and how we can better collaborate.  The group is called FORT (Federation of Reform Temples) has been around for a long time, but had not been meeting for a few years.  We got back together after a discussion we had while attending a regional meeting in St. Louis of the Union of Reform Judaism (URJ) a couple of years ago.  Rob and I find this time together with the other presidents very valuable and we look forward to continuing these relationships to promote Reform Judaism in the St. Louis area.

Then we heard about a MAZON traveling exhibit on a coast-to-coast tour that would be traveling through St. Louis and knew this would be a great collaborative project.  In case you are not aware, MAZON:  A Jewish Response to Hunger is an organization that works to bring awareness and take action to work to bring an end to hunger.   To quote from their website, “ This Is Hunger is a powerful and interactive exhibit, housed in a big rig, that takes individuals on a journey—one that that will challenge their beliefs about who in America struggles with hunger and why, and inspire them to take action.”  The exhibit will be parked at United Hebrew from July 5 – 7.  Tickets are free but you will need to reserve your time slot.  Go to thisishunger.org for more information or to reserve your tickets. You may also call Cori Neidenberg at (314) 469-0700 for help with registration.  A donation of non-perishable food items would be appreciated to help us feed those in need and support the Harvey Kornblum Jewish Food Pantry.

A Hunger Awareness Community Shabbat will be held at United Hebrew on Friday, July 7 at 5:30 pm and will cap off the week’s activity.   We will come together as a reform community to celebrate Shabbat, work together on a Hunger Project making soup packets and visit the exhibit.  There will be no service that evening at TI and our Rabbis will be participating in the community service.  No reservation is necessary.
