Membership Information
Whether you are new to the St. Louis area, returning after time away, or a local resident seeking a spiritual home, we invite you to become part of our Reform Jewish family. We always welcome active new members who want to be part of a spiritual, intellectual congregation dedicated to building Jewish identity and Jewish spirituality.
We have almost 1,400 member households, representing a broad spectrum of Reform Jews including many interfaith families. We are centrally located in Creve Coeur, a western suburb of St Louis. Our beautiful grounds and facilities include a large Sanctuary, a Chapel, an auditorium, a commercial quality kitchen, a religious school/preschool building, new playground, ample parking and an in-ground swimming pool for our summer camp.
We also own the 110-acre Edison Retreat Center in Troy, Missouri that is utilized throughout the year by chavurot, our Boy Scout troop, religious school, summer camps as well as various other functions.

How much are my dues?
Your financial commitment, through annual Temple dues, provides the resources necessary to offer the services and programs expected of a major Reform Jewish congregation. Temple Israel has a proud tradition of turning no one away from membership because of financial hardship. We are able to do this solely because others in our Temple family are willing to contribute more than the amount suggested as our minimum standard dues level.
Our dues structure is straightforward. We ask families, where either spouse is 35 years of age or older, to pay a minimum of $1,575.00 per year. This figure, adjusted annually by our Board of Trustees, represents our cost to provide services to a family. Unlike many other congregations, Temple Israel does not ask new members to make an additional building fund pledge. Dues may be paid in annual, quarterly or monthly installments.
There are various lower or special levels for singles and single parent households (75% of standard), younger members (dues are phased up 25% each year from age 30 to standard at age 35) and for newlyweds and those under 30 (one-year complimentary memberships). We provide complimentary membership to New Americans for up to two years. No one is denied membership due to their financial difficulties.
For those who are able and willing to contribute more than the standard dues, we have adopted a guideline for our Shofar Society. By joining our Shofar Society and paying at the $1,750.00 level, or higher, each year you help to offset the costs to the Temple of providing services to members whose financial circumstances prevent them from paying standard dues.
